This tool can be used for every type of (remote) usability test. However, it’s designed especially for the Task Performance Indicator methodology, a defined process to measure tasks efficiency and improvements made that influence these tasks. The tool focuses on measuring top tasks:

  • Take your customers top tasks (typically about 10)
  • Create task questions based on these top tasks
  • Give these questions to a representative sample of your customers (typically between 13 and 18) in a moderated, remote testing environment
  • Measure whether they are able to complete the tasks, how long it is taking, and what the main problems are

Why use the add-on for usability testing?

Facilitating a (remote) usability test can be challenging. You need to follow a script, ask questions, observe the behaviour of participants and make notes. All at the same time! It’s quite easy to forget or miss things. Having to rewatch a participants recording takes up extra time and sometimes the budget won’t allow this. We’ve been working with a Microsoft Excel program with macros, but it’s not as stable and robust (especially on Mac OS).

The benefits of using a Google Drive Spreadsheet add-on:

  • Browser software
It runs in your browser, regardless of your operating system. You might take this for granted, but it’s not as strict as Microsoft Excel. You can minimize screens, edit and validate inputs. It works on Safari, Firefox and Chrome.
  • Auto-saving
It auto-saves your work. So no more lost data. It even has document version management embedded.
  • Shareable
You can work with multiple facilitators in one Google Spreadsheet at the same time.
  • Always up-to-date
You’ll always have the latest version of the tool. No need to check the version. This tool will be updated regularly based on (your) feedback.
